301: Responding to Emergencies

When responding to the scene of an emergency, apparatus operators are expected to follow these protocols:

Maximum 20 mph over the speed limit and 80 mph max whilst operating all apparatus with the exception of sedans and SUVs.

Must slow down when approaching intersections if the light is green.

Must stop and clear the intersection if the light is red or the intersection is stop sign controlled.

Emergency responses are all “Code R”, which always involves the use of emergency lights and sirens and the horn when there is traffic.
