1001: Special Operations Overview

1001.1 Pre-Amble

The Special Operations are divisions with specialized equipment and procedures. Special Operations are requested to incidents which are beyond the capabilities of ordinary fire department apparatus.

1001. 2 Activation

On any incident that requires a special operation to be present, any member of the department may activate as said special operation (if the individual operating guidelines for that special operation allow it) regardless of training in said operation and the apparatus currently in service. All personnel are expected to have read and understood the applicable section of the SOP in order to utilize it. All members are encouraged to attend trainings for special divisions to gain broader understanding of the operations.

1001. 3 Supervision

Each Captain/Battalion Chief is responsible for supervising a special division. They may run trainings, supervise and organize emergency incidents involved in that scene, and help educate individuals who are not following the operation's standard operating procedure. Any operation not supervised by a Captain or Battalion chief is under the direct supervision of the fire chief.
